2. HOYOHOY ZIPLINE IN TANGUB CITY MISAMIS OCCIDENTAL
Tangub’s very own Hoyohoy Highland Stone Chapel Adventure Park places the otherwise Sleepy city in the province of Misamis Occidental, in the growing list of Philippine adventure destinations. This beautiful park, situated 850 MASL (meters above sea level) currently operates the longest zip line ride in the country as of this writing.
It currently has two operational rides: Line 1 is a whooping 1.5 kms and 500 meters deep while Line 2 is 1.2 kms and 400 meters deep. The more than kilometer-long ziplines essentially covers two different mountain barangays in (Hoyohoy) Tangub and (Guimad) Ozamiz. In between these two mountain ridges runs the Labo River, the source of which could be traced somewhere in the deep jungles of the Mt. Malindang Range Natural Park.
The 1.2 km line 2 zipline ride: From Guimad to Hoyohoy.
These have been operational since April and have steadily attracted weekend adventurers, backpackers and everyone else in between. Due to the cold climate at this elevation, it is also common to be riding through thick fog that may clear out every now and then. Depending on the unpredictable wind condition, there might also be instances where one would be unable to reach the other end of the line. But an able crew would then immediately zip from the opposite side to fetch the rider. The fog and the wind indeed drama and thrill which may not be present in zipline rides elsewhere.
The Highland Stone Chapel, from which the park was named after, almost steals the limelight from the zip rides. It was said to be built by Congressman Leo Ocampos himself, a daunting task which he did through a long period of time. The large stones that make up the walls of this charming chapel were all sourced from Hoyohoy, some of which are still beautifully scattered all over the place.
The scene reminds you of an English countryside cottage or a vacation house in Baguio or in Tagaytay. The resemblance is a welcome surprise especially when you are in this part of Northern Mindanao. Indeed, the Hoyohoy Highland Stone Chapel Park is definitely on its way to become the next adventure destination not only of Tangub City but the entire country as well.
The blogger would like to thank his cousin Lordius for driving him all the way to Hoyohoy from Ozamiz City. Otherwise, he might have taken the bus-habal-habal option in getting to the park since he was on a tight budget that weekend. Other transportation options are posted here. The zipline rides costs Php500.00 only.
3. Caluya Shrine in Sapang Dalaga misamis Occidental
I went with my family to the caluya shrine and I just said that the scenery is beautiful here. Even though our flight is far away, it’s worth it because its view is so impressive.
Sapang Dalaga is the fifth municipality of Misamis Occidental. You will be surprise that you can actually take a quick Day Tour in this place. Sapang Dalaga is very accessible if you are coming from Dapitan because it’s just 1 hour via Bus away.
Caluya Shrine is a replica of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The Views in this place is refreshing. Say a little prayer and buy some candles for just Php10. Enjoy the fresh air at the top and pose if you want.
In Caluya Shrine:There’s no signage when you get there but you may let know the bus driver where to drop you off.Wait for a Habal Habal driver to pass by for Php30 each per way and another Php20 to get you to the Port.
You just need to climb up 197 steps to reach the top. So it’s easy peasy. There’s also kiddie guides that tell you about brief introduction about sapang dalaga.
4. Dao Dao Island in Pagadian City Zamboang Del Sur
I went here with my friends on my 15th birthday. I do not think that's good because it looks like it's just like a normal island but here it is.
This is one of the most well-known local attractions and is located just about 10 minutes away from the city. You have to take a motorized boat from the seaport to get to this island. There are actually two islands named Dao-Dao. They are Dao-Dao Dako (which means big), which is the larger one, and Dao-Dao Gamay (which means small). There is a resort with cottages at the former. The latter is an islet that appears during low tide, and you can even walk going there coming from the bigger island when the water recedes. However, you will still be at least half submerged in water, so still take caution. You will find man-made coral reefs surrounding the islands. Both places are great for swimming, fishing, and boating, or just enjoying a pretty view of Pagadian.
My name is Whea Jane B. Escorial and I love to travel. Ever since I was a kid, I had a sense of adventure. Just going around the ‘next bend’ on my bicycle, to see what was there, was exciting.
I am papa’s girl, I have 2 brothers and one sister. My father past away when I was just 6 years old and all my dreams are gone like a dust. When I was a kid I promise to myself that when I travel in adventure place I want to travel with the whole family and my papa also promise to me that he will be at my side every time I do adventure.
In traveling you learn and experience so much, meet new people….but it can be very isolating and lonely at times. I have always loved the adventure of travel the unknown, something different, something new. But, why do I love traveling so much? Here’s my ‘I love travelling essay’ to try to explain this magic of travel!
I love the excitement of traveling
I love the excitement of it all — feeling like an explorer — discovering a new land, a new language, new money and all the little challenges that go along with it. When I travel, I am more spontaneous and don’t live for the future or the past… just in the moment. Being impulsive and saying ‘yes’ to nearly everything is part of the fun
